During February and March 2019 the artists Phoebe Collings-James, Rachel Pimm and Richard Paul undertook residencies in the University's Department of Materials. During this time they conducted research as part of ongoing projects exploring the physical properties of materials in connection with their conceptual associations, and their social and political implications. Each artist also took part in a 'Materials Conversation', in which they discussed their practice with an invited guest speaker.

Works produced by the artists during and informed by their residencies were displayed in the exhibition 'Beyond Transparency' in the University's Martin Hall Exhibition Space during January 2020: more information about the exhibition can be found by clicking the link below.

The residencies were supported by a grant from the Henry Moore Foundation.
