About the display

In May 2026, Radar held a celebratory gathering at Loughborough University to mark the culmination of the rich exchange between artists Helem Andrade, Betel Cucué, Rosa Marina Flores Cruz, Dorine van Meel, Felipe Viveros, members of Futuros Indígenas and Cherán’s community in Mexico, and participants at Loughborough University: Neda Abbasimaleki, Jenny Amann, Carina Brand, Saurav Roy, Alma Solarte-Tobon, John Tobin and Zoha Khaniki. 

Through a series of workshops led by Dorine and Felipe at Loughborough, we gained insights into the roles of colonialism, capitalism, systems, society, ancestors and individuals on the growing climate emergency. Felipe referred to Homo narrans or 'storytelling human', as an alternative to Homo sapiens or 'wise human', to prioritise storytelling over other forms of intelligence such as logic or reasoning, and proposed that a change in the narrative can lead to a change in the system. The workshop participants were invited to respond through 2 questions: 

• What narratives have impacted our individual lives and beliefs? 
• Which of these narratives would we like to change? 

During the event in May, participants in Loughborough and Cherán, Mexico, shared the collectively created moving image work Parhangua: Conversaciones Alrededor del Fuego, alongside spoken word performances, discussions and live music, to build relationships rooted in care and solidarity, relationships that opened a shared horizon for ecological and social justice to emerge. The prose offerings and still images from the film are being presented in a special exhibition at the Pilkington Library, Loughborough University.

The display is on the walls of Staircase B, between levels 3 and 4.
