Art Education: Interesting Histories and Alternative Futures

Thu 13 June 2019, 10:30am - 4:30pm at Room 1.17, Martin Hall, Loughborough University

Organised by LU Arts as part of Loughborough University Arts Festival. Tickets are £5 and include lunch. Please click here to book.

The history of art education is full of utopian visions and creative pedagogies proposing new educational methodologies. At a time when art education is under threat, this symposium will celebrate and reflect upon these histories and consider how they can be re-appraised and re-imagined.

The day will be introduced by Chief Executive of Arts Council England Darren Henley and combine presentations from curators, academics and artists who all share an interest in educational histories, structures, and practices. It will be of interest to art historians, educationalists, curators and artists and to anyone interested in the future of art education. Speakers include: Emanuel Almborg, Matthew Cornford/John Beck, Annie Davey, Elspeth Mitchell, Fay Nicolson, Carolina Rito, Hilary Robinson, Adam Sutherland, Gillian Whiteley, and Alison Yarrington.

This event is part of Loughborough University Arts Festival, a celebration of the creative, visual and performing arts at Loughborough. The festival takes place from 5-13 June on campus.
